Author's POV
His jaw tightened. He clenched his knuckles and faked a smile, "Can I have the pleasure of dancing with you tonight?"
Nitya's heart accelerated with the highest speed as Rudransh's grip tightened around her wrist, pulling her closer.
At that moment, the music played softly in the background. The whole situation showcases a contrasting tension between them.
Nitya opened her mouth, "You can't just –
Within seconds, Rudransh leaned in, his warm breath against her ear.
"Don't make a scene," he hissed, his voice low and dangerous. "You're going to dance with me, and you're going to smile while doing it."
Nitya's eyes turned towards Kabir, who took a step forward Rudransh. Determination could be seen on his face. But Rudransh's cold gaze stopped him in place.
On the other hand, Kabir knew Rudransh before. Furthermore, he was also aware of the enmity between Nitya and Rudransh's Family unlike her.
"Stay out of this, "Rudransh warned Kabir, his voice carrying an unspoken threat. "This is between me and her."
Kabir hesitated, his fists clenched, but he was well aware that challenging Rudransh at that time would be an invitation to trouble.
So reluctantly, he stepped back, his jaw tightened with frustration.
Without waiting for Nitya's reply, Rudransh's hand slid to the small of her back, pressing her closer as he dragged her to the middle of the room.
"See, that wasn't hard," he murmured, his lips brushing her ear. "Now smile."
"Let me go," Nitya said as she found herself struggling to keep up, her steps were not able to match his relentless pace.
"Why are you doing this?" She asked, trying to pull away, but his grip only tightened. His hand on her waist was like a vice, allowing no escape.
Rudransh's smile was cold. "Because I can," he replied, his tone had a touch of icy confidence. "And because you need to learn how not to defy me."
Nitya's heart pounded as panic set in. She glanced desperately at Arjun, hoping he would step in, but no one dared to challenge Rudransh.
As the dance went on, Nitya's struggled. Her reluctance only made Rudransh more determined.
He spun her around, making her face him. "Stop fighting," he ordered in a threatening whisper. "You're only making it worse."
Tears of frustration and fear filled Nitya's eyes, but she held them back. "You won't get away with this," she said, trying to pull away again.
Rudransh's grip tightened. He leaned in close, his lips brushing her ear. "Watch me," he whispered a hint of menace in his voice.
Nitya's heart accelerated with the highest speed. The music in the room seemed distant, overshadowed by the tension between them.
When she tried to move away, his firm and unyielding grip kept her in the same place.
"Who the hell are you?" Nitya shouted in a low tone, her voice laced with frustration and a hint of fear.
Seeing that, Rudransh's lips curled into a playful smile. "That's what you need to find out," he replied.
At that time, his tone was light but his eyes were dark and serious. Without waiting for her response, he pulled her even closer, his body pressed tightly against hers.
Nitya's breath hitched as Rudransh's lips brushed the outline of her neck. The unexpected intimacy of his touch sent shivers down her spine.
She couldn't suppress the gasp that escaped her lips. No one had ever touched her like that before.
Undoubtedly, the sensation was both electrifying and terrifying. Her eyes fluttered closed, even though she wanted to pull away.
She felt trapped in the moment, unable to resist his dominance.
The surroundings got blurred. All Nitya could focus on was Rudransh and the intensity that seemed to pulse between them.
Her mind raced, trying to comprehend the man in front of her and the strange power which he was having over her emotions.
"This is wrong," Nitya whispered under her breath.
On the other hand, Arjun noticed the increasing tension in the air.
So he, decided that it was time to intervene.
In no time, he made his way across the room, his expression determined.
As he approached, he reached out and rested his hand on Rudransh's shoulder.
"Let her go, bhai," he said firmly, his voice cutting through the charged atmosphere.
There was an indescribable emotion in Rudransh's eyes. His eyes were fixed on Arjun, and for a moment, Nitya thought that he might refuse.
But then, with a slight nod, he released his grip on her waist. "Until next time," he murmured to Nitya, his lips curving into a knowing smile.
Relief washed over Nitya as she stepped back, putting distance between herself and Rudransh.
Kabir quickly moved to her side, and asked in a concerned tone, "Are you okay?"
His voice was gentle but she recalled how he left her when Rudransh took her away. Guilt was all over written on his face.
Without replying to him, she turned and quickly made her way out of the venue. She didn't want to stand there even for a second.
Outside the venue, the cool night air hit her like a balm. Nitya took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart.
She hurried back to her apartment. Her thoughts were a whirlwind of confusion and fear.
Once she entered, she immediately locked the door tightly behind her, leaning against it for a moment to catch her breath.
The familiar surroundings of her apartment did little to soothe her.
Afterwards, she quickly changed into her pyjamas and slipped into bed, pulling the covers up to her chin.
But even in the safety of her room, Rudransh's image haunted her. His dark eyes, his commanding presence, the way he had touched her – it was all too much.
She tossed and turned, unable to shake the feeling of unease.
Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Rudransh's face, felt his touch, and heard his voice.
The sense of foreboding that had settled over her at the ballroom only grew stronger.
Then, just as she was beginning to drift off, her phone rang.
The sound startled her. She quickly grabbed it from her bedside table.
When she saw Aditya, her brother's name on the screen, she answered immediately. "Hello?" she said, her voice shaky.
He never called her too late. "Was everything alright in India?" She thought.
"Nitya,"Aditya's voice came through, urgent and strained. "Dadi had a heart attack. She wants to see you. Come back home."
